An Afternoon in Austin

Kandee and I spent an afternoon in Austin this weekend. The food alone was worth trip. We grabbed lunch at East Side King on East 6th. The Pork Kimchee Stew and Fried Potato Noodles. We'll take both, please.

We also did some shopping at the Domain. Excuse the MySpace mirror shot, but please note the milkmaid braid. It may look cute from afar, but there were 100 bobby pins sticking out everywhere in that hair a.k.a. not cute. My new summer goal is to master that hair style. With less bobby pins, of course. Another goal is to find a way to get my hands on those planters at Free People. So dreamy and perfect. I need those in my life.

We wrapped up this trip with some gourmet donuts from Gourdough's. If you can't already tell, we support the food trucks. I ordered the Funky Monkey (Grilled Bananas & Cream Cheese Icing with Brown Sugar) and Kandee ordered the Heavenly Hash (Marshmallow with Chocolate Fudge Icing Topped with Fudge Brownie Candy). Sugar coma for days, but totally worth it. Austin never disappoints.

Celebrating One Year

We headed to Austin on Saturday after Tad's graduation. Woohoo! What a weekend. What better way to kick off our anniversary celebration on Sunday than with Tex-Mex at Hula Hut? There is always a long wait, but it is worth the wait every time! Please give me those shrimp enchiladas every year on our anniversary. I've also come to the realization Mexican restaurants will forever be crowded on this day. Sigh.

We wrapped it up on Sunday by eating a slice from the top tier of our wedding cake at the park. What can I say? We're superstitious. Speaking of which, "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder was actually playing at our wedding when we cut the cake. Coincidence? I think not.

The best part of the trip was the honeymoon suite. Little bit of an inside joke. If you see Tad around, just ask him to fill you in.

Girl's Day Out

Our sweet mama's Birthday is today so we went to Austin for a little celebrating this weekend. By celebrating I mean eating delicious food and going shopping. What other way is there? We spent Sunday afternoon at the Domain. I haven't had a girl's day with these ladies in such a long time. Oh how I miss it! I've also discovered that I could probably live in H&M. I was actually still in there yesterday when they shut off the lights. True story.

Happy Birthday mama and aunt Carol! Love those twins.

P.S. I made this vine video of me and Kandee goofing around while shopping for sunglasses. I don't know how I feel about vine yet. It seems a wee bit intrusive for me, but it's kind of fun so hey why not? We'll see how I long I keep up with these social media shenanigans.

A Summer Day at Barton Springs

Funny thing about this summer day is it didn't feel at all like summer. One word to describe this experience: hypothermia. OK I'm being dramatic, but there were a few moments when my entire body was absolutely numb. The water temperature at Barton Springs averages about 68 degrees throughout the year. Which is great for summers in Texas. That is when the temperature isn't 85 degrees outside. We kept telling ourselves the sun was going to shine any minute. While that never happened, we still had so much fun! Tad made friendly with the locals, we witnessed a gypsy raindance and enjoyed a little live music. This swimming hole is the place to be. Unfortunately, the raindance worked and our swimming fun was over. We hope to go back again soon.

I also came to the realization my husband might be a model. He looked so good coming out of those waters while I looked like swamp creature. I wonder what his secret is? Until next time, Austin!

A SATURDAY IN AUSTIN

Klifford is reason alone to watch this video. We took him to Austin on Saturday and he just couldn't handle the heat. He can be such a princess when it comes to the outdoors. Don't worry, he was very well hydrated despite what it may look like. On a brighter note, he made many new friends. We visited our favorite thrift stores and ate lunch at the most delicious food trucks. So glad Kandee joined us!

You can check out our last Austin outing with Klifford here. Note to self: Don't take him back again until fall. Better yet, winter.

A ZOCALO LUNCH

Over the weekend we had a delicious lunch in Austin at Zocalo cafe. My dear friend Marielle introduced me to this little gem. Let me just say Klifford is Zocalo's biggest fan. He never gets to dine out in Temple. Or drink horchatas.

Best part of lunch? Klifford made a little friend. Meet Bits Ruth. She was a doll. Couldn't believe Klifford didn't attack her. Always has the ability to surprise me that one.

Klifford went home to San Marvelous with auntie Kandee for the week. I was really nervous about letting him go, but I know she will guard him with her life.

Note: A little bird definitely pooped on my head as we were leaving. There's a first time for everything. Kandee found it hilarious and was very helpful. Minus the helpful part. I did not document this with a camera. Forgive me.

AN AUSTIN OUTING

Who doesn't love Jo's Coffee message of love?
Tad and I made a little trip to Austin this weekend for a few reasons. 1. It's my favorite place in Texas. 2. I had to order a bridesmaid dress for my best friend's wedding (super pumped). 3. I love to thrift. 4. We got to meet my darling little sister, Kandee, for dinner in San Marcos.

After we made a trip to David's Bridal and Whole Foods, we made our way to South Congress. Oh my do I love that place. New Bohemia and Feathers Boutique are kind of my favorite places to shop. A little retro, a lot of awesome. Picked up an adorable 70s dress and a cozy bomber jacket. Austin, until we meet again.
