Favorite February Flicks

We watch a lot of movies around these parts. Thought I'd share some favorites from this month.

Beasts of the Southern Wild :: This film is so beautiful and so sad all at the same time. I was a literally a puddle at the end. You know, the kind of really embarrassing cry when you start hyperventilating a little. That happened. It was so very worth it, though. Hushpuppy will steal your heart. It's a must see.

Argo :: If you watched the Oscars this week, you know this movie is kind of a big deal. I was on board when I saw Ben Affleck was the director. He recently directed The Town and I just thought that movie was the bee's knees. Argo definitely doesn't disappoint. I even learned a thing or two about history.

Life Is But A Dream :: Beyonce. Enough said, right? This documentary aired on HBO this month and was quite the treat. Loved getting a glimpse into her sweet marriage and pregnancy. Her love for the Lord and her family is so inspiring and refreshing. OK, so I watched it twice. Not even ashamed.

Safety Not Guaranteed :: This movie is simply the cutest. You just can't go wrong with a little romance and sci-fi. So what happens when you answer a classified ad seeking a partner for a time travel expedition? It's pretty magical. You might even cry some happy tears. Two thumbs up.

Sinister :: If you know me, you know I am a huge horror movie buff. I'm always very impressed when a movie actually scares me. Well, Sinister did. Tad didn't find it as scary. Clearly he must have fallen asleep. Ethan Hawke nails it. You will never look at Super 8 film the same. So creepy. You've been warned!

Salute to Supernatural

Last month we made our way to Dallas for a Supernatural convention. That's right. Officially a convention geek now. The moment I saw the first episode of Supernatural I was hooked. I mean, two brothers in a '67 Chevy Impala fighting evil supernatural beings. Sign me up. I speak for my entire family when I say we're fans. We make Supernatural references on the daily (OK maybe not daily, but a lot). We're big nerds when it comes to this show. When we found out the convention was coming to Texas, we had to make it happen.

Let me just take a moment to talk about the photo op with Jared and Jensen a.k.a. Tad's worst nightmare. Kandee and I had been discussing how we were going to pose for weeks. Kandee wouldn't stop practicing her pose in the hotel. Embarrassing, but true. Well all of that changed when we were in the room. I just knew we had to go in for a hug and that's what we did. I'm not one to usually get star-struck. When I was an intern for HBO in L.A., I was completely professional when it came to events and meeting some pretty talented actors. Well, got a little speechless when we met these two. We only exchanged a few words, but Jensen is as witty as his character and that Jared, a real peach! When we received the pictures this week, we were thrilled to bits. And how cute are my mom and aunt Carol? They were just loving every minute.

What about Tad? He is a huge X-Files fan and since Supernatural has the same director-producer, it's no surprise he enjoys it a little himself. He was such a good sport to come with all of us girls and even got a picture with the Impala. What a stud.

So that's our convention experience in a nutshell. You should probably go watch Supernatural now.
