Lately

Longest hiatus ever! Whoa. Things have been all kinds of crazy lately. Tad takes the bar in July and has been studying like a mad man. He will get his results back in November and we will see where a job takes us. In the meantime, we are enjoying the country life and love living close to family and friends.

Between Tad studying for the bar and me adjusting to country living, June has been anything but uneventful. I've always been a City girl so I'm new to sharing a home with creepy crawlers and other fun insects. In fact, I got a very warm welcome to the country recently. One night after Tad and I feel asleep last week, I woke up to a sting on my leg. I could probably sleep during an earthquake so this sting packed a punch. I had no clue what it was so I gently shook my leg and didn't think much of it. Boy was I wrong. A few seconds later, I felt another sting on the back of the same leg. I knew this was NOT good. Let me also say that I am blind as a bat without contacts or glasses so there was really no point in me trying to take a look. Curiosity still got the best of me and I uncovered the sheets. There it was. A little night crawler. Since I can't see, I immediately woke Tad up to identify what on earth stung my leg. He jumped up, killed it and wouldn't tell me what it was. I honestly didn't want to know. Come the morning, I just had to know.

Stung by a what? A scorpion. Twice. Let that rock you to sleep tonight. There have been no more encounters. Thank the Lord! I did however see a stick insect yesterday. Have you ever seen one? Do yourself a favor and google this. Craziest little creature, that one.

So there that is. Spending time with scorpions and swimming pools. Call me crazy, but I wouldn't have this adventure any other way. Except for maybe the scorpion. Let's hope that never happens again.

Baylor Law Graduation

Graduation was a success. Wish I could say the same for the pictures I took. I had more pictures with family, but apparently can't work a camera in bright sunlight so they didn't turn out so well. Whoops. Really need to learn the manual setting. It was great to see family that came down for this special day. So very proud of that husband of mine. One graduation down, one bar exam to go. Now if only I could stop tempting Tad to watch Breaking Bad with me so he can get some studying done. Not out of the woods yet!

Polaroids + Pizza

Just a few polaroids from Saturday because why not? We got a late start to Austin because we were having too much fun celebrating the graduate with our families. We didn't have a ton of options for dinner at 10 p.m., but we were starving and East Side Pies was still open. You're probably thinking who eats a meal this size at that hour? We do. No shame in having an appetite over here. When we got there, I thought I was back in Portland. Austin East Side may as well be Portland Pearl District. We ordered the Guiche pizza with spinach, goat cheese, green chilies and sun-dried tomatoes. Yum. We topped it off with a Greek Salad and Garlic Knots. Back to the hotel we went. Pizza is always a perfect ending to a perfect day if you ask me.

Celebrating One Year

We headed to Austin on Saturday after Tad's graduation. Woohoo! What a weekend. What better way to kick off our anniversary celebration on Sunday than with Tex-Mex at Hula Hut? There is always a long wait, but it is worth the wait every time! Please give me those shrimp enchiladas every year on our anniversary. I've also come to the realization Mexican restaurants will forever be crowded on this day. Sigh.

We wrapped it up on Sunday by eating a slice from the top tier of our wedding cake at the park. What can I say? We're superstitious. Speaking of which, "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder was actually playing at our wedding when we cut the cake. Coincidence? I think not.

The best part of the trip was the honeymoon suite. Little bit of an inside joke. If you see Tad around, just ask him to fill you in.

One Year Anniversary

Being a newlywed with this man has been an amazing journey of love and self-discovery. It's funny how living with someone can bring things to light about yourself. I realized how much I really just don't cook, but I love to clean. I'm not completely undomesticated! Give me a little credit. I've also realized I married the most patient man on earth. He's definitely taught me a thing or two.

Still can't believe it has been a year since we said, "I Do" in front of our sweet family and friends. Time really does fly when you're having fun. Before we know it, we'll be celebrating our five year anniversary where I'm sure Tad will surprise me with a trip to Europe. Right, Tad? OK. Maybe for our six year. This year we'll be celebrating this happy day in Austin. Oh, and Happy Cinco De Mayo! We'll be celebrating this with everyone else too. Cue the mariachis.
