¡Viva Terlingua!

Terlingua for the win! Highlight of our trip, hands down. I'll let the pictures do most of the talking.

Are those not the bluest skies you have ever seen? So beautiful. This ghost town was very much alive. We stopped here on our way to Marfa to explore the old mining town and Chisos Mountains. I am so glad we did. We ate lunch at the High Sierra Bar & Grill. Most delicious burger in West Texas in case you were wondering. We chatted with the owner who made the move to Terlingua after she retired. I think this inspired Tad just a little. He didn't want to leave. Also, he is a champ for those historical marks. He refused not to read one. Not just in Terlingua, but also on the road. Such a history buff.

Next time we're in Terlingua, we'd love to stay at La Posado Milagro and maybe have a dinner date at Starlight Theatre. If it's up to my husband, that day will be sooner rather than later.

Borderland

We were cruising down FM 170 a.k.a. River Road this weekend when we stumbled upon this rancheria. It is sitting on the Rio Grande river. A beautiful place if I do say so myself. Funny thing is this place was never a real village. It was constructed in 1985 for a border-western comedy. My grandpa is always watching a western. Always. He would've been in heaven. Brooks & Dunn also filmed the music video "My Maria" here. I mean, that's a good enough reason for me to stop and explore.

How crazy is it that Mexico is just across this river? We thought about swimming across and visiting some ancestors of mine. Not really, but I would love to go to Mexico soon. The culture in this area is so vibrant and unique. The best of both worlds. Borderland is a magical place.

A Texas Desert Road Trip

After Thanksgiving festivities with our families, we hit the road. Just a few bits and pieces from our West Texas road trip. Most of these pictures were taken en route to Fort Davis and Alpine. We couldn't get enough Maverick Inn and Tex-Mex in that darling town. The area had such a relaxing pace which Tad and I live for. We will definitely stay there again. Also, those mountains surely didn't look real. God blessed Texas.

Mixtape: West Texas Road Trip

Off to explore the land of West Texas this week. Had to make a road trip mix. Tad suggested a few of these songs. I also put some love songs on there for him. Really hopes he reads into those lyrics. That's what mixtapes are for, right? It's going to be a pretty long drive so we'll also be playing some Mason Jennings, Wilco and Black Keys albums I'm sure. Maybe even some Ace of Base. That's right. Anything goes.

Marfa, here we come.

Suspension Bridge Outing

This weekend we had a tasty Starbucks date at the Suspension Bridge. You guys, the chai eggnog latte a.k.a. cheg is back! It is only my favorite Holiday drink in the world. It also didn't hurt we had a Starbucks gift card (thanks, mom). This called for a celebration. The weather was perfect and we wanted any excuse to be outside.

I can't believe I've never been to this bridge before. Clearly I'm missing out. We went just before sunset and I have to say I highly recommend this. It was a pretty typical date for us. Flirting, me channeling my inner Carly Simon, Tad capturing awkward pictures of me, etc. After this we caught a movie and I talked Tad into cooking chili. Again. It was basically the Saturday of my dreams. Why can't every day be Saturday?

Oh, and pay no attention to me blowing kisses to Tad in that last picture. Just make note of that dreamy lighting. Sigh.

An Inside Picnic Kind of Day

We had a beautiful picnic planned outside this weekend. Fried chicken, potato salad, you name it. There were a few reasons as to why this did not happen. First of all, it was way too chilly outside to be frolicking in the grass. Also, my husband loves Taco Bell and decided he just had to have it. So we improvised a little and this is what we got. A Taco Bell picnic inside on a Mexican blanket. We know how to keep the romance alive.

P.S. Words really can't describe how much Tad loves Taco Bell. I will be out of town all week and something tells me this will be his meal of choice while I'm away.

Anniversaries, Birthdays and Such

Funny how life comes full circle sometimes. One year ago today, I started this little blog with a six month countdown post until our wedding. Today we have been married for six months. Happy Anniversary, Tad. You have brought such joy to my life these past few months. People say the first year of marriage is the hardest. Can't say I've felt that way on this journey so far. It's definitely not easy, but I've never been so happy.

And Happy Birthday, little ol' blog. This one's for you.

Halloween Night

We had the Pershall family over for dinner on Halloween night. We wanted to cook something a little festive so Tad whipped up some delicious chili and I cut out Halloween shaped cheese. I know, a lot of hard work on my part. I joked with Tad that I am basically the real life version of Cher's character, Mrs. Flax, from the movie Mermaids. She had a thing for hors d'oeuvres. She only made finger foods like marshmallow kebabs and even chopped her sandwiches into stars. My kind of lady.

Back to dinner. Chelsea and JR dressed as Bert and Ernie. Tad and I were hippies. I think? I'm not really sure what Tad was looking back at these pictures. The cutest costume award went to Carter. Look at those darling tights! There was really no competition.

What better way to end Halloween than to watch the movie Halloween? It's a tradition every Halloween night so Tad and I popped this move in after our company left. Long story short, Tad went to bed about 10 minutes into the movie and I chickened out watching it alone. All in all, it was a pretty great night. Hope everyone had as much fun on Halloween as we did.
