A Flores Family Dinner

We had a lovely dinner on Friday night with my grandparents, sister, dad and little Klifford. His hungry eyes were killing me. Tad was a little scared to make Mexican food because my grandparents are tough critics, but his Creamy Poblano Pepper Soup was a hit. The only thing that lacked was homemade chile. My pineapple salsa just didn't cut the mustard. Did I mention Irene brought her homemade tortillas? I live for those.

Best part of the evening? Irene wouldn't leave until she washed every single one of the dishes. This is typical Irene nature. I wasn't complaining. When I worked retail, she would come visit me and next thing I knew she was folding all of the clothing. I would always laugh and insist she stop, but then I just embraced it. Hard working woman that one. We love having family over and can't wait to have more over again soon.

Getting in the Groove

With this mad man. Practice Court is in full swing and it has taken some time to adjust to Tad's new schedule. He gets home from school, studies, eats dinner, goes to sleep and then wakes up at 4 a.m. to read before class. It exhausts me just writing that. I don't know how he does it, but he still makes some time for me in the evening in the midst of his routine. The weekends seem to be the best time to relax and spend time together. Hey, I'll take what I can get! It's not easy sharing my husband with law school, but there is a light at the end of tunnel. He graduates in seven months and 14 days, but who's counting?

We've been out of town most weekends, but it looks like we'll have to stick close to Waco more in the upcoming months. After this weekend that is. We have something very fun planned with my family in Dallas. It may involve a convention and photo op with our favorite CW brothers. I'm sure this is exactly how Tad wants to spend his weekend off. That boy must really love me.

Portland in Pictures

Well folks, there you have it. Our trip in a nutshell. Kandee went to town with my camera. A budding photographer if I do say so myself. Boy did we do a lot one in one week. We spent most of our time exploring darling shops and restaurants in the Pearl District. We almost moved there, but decided to come home for Klifford's sake (just kidding, Tad). We also visited the Portland Japanese Garden and the International Rose Test Garden. I renamed it the secret garden. It was kind of perfect. The City stole my heart. I told Tad I wouldn't mind at all if he applied for a few jobs there. I'm also sure Kandee will have set up shop in Oregon by next year.

P.S. See that Portland Oregon Old Town sign? You probably don't because it might be the worst picture ever, but I was so excited to see it. If you only knew what I did to get that picture. Went a little crazy. We're talking knocked Kandee out of the cab kind of crazy. The best part is I didn't even get a great picture of it, and I took around 25. Bless our cab driver. It made for a good laugh later. You know the make your stomach hurt kind of laugh. You're welcome, sister.

In case you missed our Portland adventure to Voodoo Doughnut, you can check it out here. We will be back to this City, but not soon enough!

A Voodoo Doughnut Breakfast

Kandee and I have been daydreaming about Voodoo Doughnut for years now (not exaggerating). On the last day of our trip we asked each other what the highlight of Portland was. It was a no-brainer, really. Finally sinking our teeth into one of these delicious donuts. Sweet chalice of conquest! Looking at these pictures make my mouth water all over again.

We walked almost two miles from our hotel for this little breakfast. When we arrived we couldn't even believe we were there. Such nerds I know. Did I mention there wasn't even a line? It was too good to be true. After we ordered, we sat outside and took it all in. Thanks to the employees for letting me photograph the goods inside. No shame in the game when it comes to documenting these amazing moments.

Don't even get me started on the "Captain my Captain" donut with vanilla frosting and Captain Crunch. If I lived in Portland, I would eat that thing every morning for breakfast. Self-control, see ya later.

A Quick Hello From Portland

Kandee and I have been having the time of our lives in Portland, Oregon this week. I had the opportunity to visit and Kandee tagged along. So very glad she did. I'm a huge fan of that little lady. We've been going on all kinds of adventures. The picture above was taken at the beautiful Washington Park. Oh and it hasn't rained once since we've been here. Can you believe it? Portland, we'd like to take your weather back with us if that's alright. I'll be back on Texas soil this weekend. I'm ready. Missing that husband of mine. More pictures to come soon!

Central Texas State Fair Fun

Over the weekend, Tad and I went to the Central Texas State Fair in Belton. Let me just say, I never miss out on this fair. It may or may not be because back in 2002 I was crowned Miss Central Texas State Fair. True story. I only competed against four other girls, but that's beside the point. I wore that crown with all of my heart. Oh, the glory days. I guess you could say I kind of have a love affair with this event. Plus when is fun rides, fried food and live music not a good idea? True Texans will say never.

We were in for a surprise when on the stage appeared an old friend from high school. We had no idea Jonathan played bass guitar for Granger Smith. So cool! We weren't able to stay and chat with him after the show, but we did catch up with his sweet sister for a bit. I just love seeing people from this area do big things. CTSF, we'll be back next year. You can count on it.
