Around These Parts

We've been...
Enjoying sunset walks in our neighborhood. Almost as romantic as the beach I tell ya.

Discovering the perfect meals and snacks for two.

Getting welcome home flowers from husband and spending time with my favorite visitors. Hey Kandee, we got Netflix. I promise the next sleepover will be that much more fun. Come back soon. In other news, we are very excited Sam and the Pershall family are back home! And we are not excited Texas has reached the triple digits. It's a scorture out there, y'all.

Reason #85: Why I Love My Husband

I left good ol' Waco for Austin this week for work. Before I left, Tad did something very special for me. Per usual. I came home and there were empanadas and shrimp quesadillas waiting for me, compliments of my husband the chef. Every meal that man makes is a true labor of love. I just hope he knows how much I appreciate it and love him dearly for it. He's also been spoiling me with surprises as of late. His new thing is hiding a movie he rents for me and then giving hints to find it. He's pretty selfless when it comes to our movie rentals. He always picks a movie he knows I'd like. Just ask him the last 10 movies he has seen. Can't help but wonder if he ever gets tired of being the most thoughtful husband? So lucky he's all mine.

I love Austin, but I'm ready to be home. This is the longest we've been apart in our little married lives. I never thought I'd miss his beard, but I do. Well off to a restaurant romp and then back to the hotel for my last night. Room service and HBO are no fun alone. OK, who am I kidding? It's a little fun.

Father's Day

Tad and I made our way to Temple yesterday to celebrate Father's Day with our families. First we headed to the Allen's for a little grilling and lounging by the pool. Steve and Renee prepared the most delicious meal. Think I may have dreamed about those shrimp tacos last night. We sure missed Samantha and the Pershall family. Can't wait to have them back here soon.

Then we went to my aunt Joanna's house to spend a little time with the Flores family. My dad isn't always too keen on pictures, but the same can't be said for my grandpa. He loves to ham it up for the camera. Actually, not even sure he knows I'm taking a picture half of the time, but that man is so photogenic. Oh and did you notice that my husband and grandpa match? Of course you did! Thankful for these wonderful men in our lives.

PIZZA DATE AT POPPA ROLLO'S

The mister and I have been looking forward to date night all week. The last few days have been a wee bit busy. I've had way too many meetings and Tad had the opportunity to work on his first case. We were pretty thrilled about that, but let's return to the subject at hand. Pizza. I could eat it every day. In fact, there were many weeks in college I did. It's just so delicious. Tad took me to Poppa Rollo's for the first time when we first began dating. The ingredients are so fresh and it's such a fun, laid-back atmosphere. The best part you ask? They give you ranch dressing with everything you order. It's almost like they're mind-readers. That pizza joint knows how to win us over.

We usually rent a few movies to end date night, but we were just way too exhausted. I'd say the date was still successful any way you slice it. Pun intended.

LATEST OBSESSIONS

1. This amazing print speaks truth.
2. A delicious oil I discovered at Whole Foods. Under $5. That's right. It doesn't hurt it's Tad's favorite.
3. M·A·C Snob lipstick. Quite possibly my new favorite summer shade.
4. Dying over the Show Me Your Mumu summer styles. I'll take one of each, please.
5. Carly. Forever and always love that lady. I have the coasters to prove it.
6. Still can't get enough of the El Camino album. Need to see them on tour. Badly.
7. Loving this air plant pod. I'm convinced our loft needs it.

IT'S FRIDAY, I'M IN LOVE

There's something to be said about being in love with love. There are just so many things I'm loving this week. Green Wedding Shoes featured our wedding on Wednesday! Check it out here. GWS is hands down my most favorite wedding blog so I was just tickled they featured our wedding.  I will share more pictures of the big day soon. I know I know. No one else cares about our wedding as much as I do, but the pictures are just too beautiful not to be shared.

On Wednesday I also had the opportunity to do a Tribal Glam photo shoot with Sweet Sunday Events. Those ladies are so stinkin' creative and talented. I had such a blast. I am no model by any means, but it was fun pretending to be. That's why I enjoy acting so much. What's not to love about playing make believe? We shot in Austin and I didn't get back home until 11 p.m. Of course the husband was waiting for me. He even had a little surprise. Homemade zucchini bread. It's one of my most favorite things. I've been eyeing it at the grocery store, but never want to pay $4 for it. I'm funny about food. So what does Tad do in this dilemma? Bakes it for me, of course. That man.

This week also marked our one month anniversary. Time sure does fly when you're having fun. It was such an amazing week and I don't want it to end. Although I am pretty excited about a pizza date in the near future. Hope everyone enjoys the beautiful sunshine this weekend!

THRIFTY FINDS

There's nothing I love more than a good estate sale. On Saturday, I might have had the best experience yet. Yard sales are always a hit or miss. We had a good feeling about what we'd find in Elm Mott and we sure were right. They had an entire wall dedicated to atomic dinnerware and glasses. Tad knew we were in trouble, but I controlled myself! We left there with 16 vintage glasses under $12. A steal of a deal if you ask me.

We also paid a little visit to the infamous Style Station in West. A wee bit out of my budget at the moment, but boy did they have some gems. OK. So I kind of cheated with the Siesta Ware glasses. I actually ordered those on Etsy. They came in this weekend and I must say they are a great addition to my other finds. One man's trash is another man's treasure, right?

OUR WEDDING FILM

We are so in love with our sweet wedding film. Nostalgia Film captured this magical day perfectly. Another reason our wedding day was pretty amazing? Supermoon Saturday. You can catch a glimpse of the beautiful pink moon during our first dance. How sweet is Super 8 film?

LATELY IN THE KITCHEN...

We've just been baking up a storm here lately. I'm usually one to stay out of the kitchen, but turns out I'm a champ at pies and rice krispies treats. Tad takes charge when it comes to our meals. This is completely by choice. I try to help out and he kicks me out of the kitchen. The man enjoys cooking. Or maybe he's just trying to earn his keep. Beats me, but I'm not complaining.

We attempted to make our own version of the Sleepy Hippy pizza this week. It was no D'Blazio's, but a valiant effort nonetheless. We still enjoyed our loaded veggie pie. Pizza is hands down my favorite meal next to hamburgers and Tex-Mex.

We also made these delicious German pancakes with buttermilk syrup. Can't believe I forgot to add strawberries. They're definitely the classiest fruit around and a must have for any pancake. Eh, next time.
